Respect the Authoritah!

by Lester Young

“Let it be known and understood by all of you…that in the Name and through the power and authority of Jesus Christ of Nazareth…Whom God raised from the dead, in Him and by means of Him this man is standing here before you well and sound…” (Acts 4:10 Amplified).

‘Jesus’ – the Name that’s been placed higher than every other named thing in existence; the Name at which every knee bows and tongue confesses His Lordship, regardless of their location in heaven, earth or under; the Name that wields all power, both in heaven and earth (Matthew 28:18; Ephesians 1:21; Philippians 2:9-10). It’s a pretty impressive feat to be able to throw around the words ‘every’ and ‘all’ in your résumé, wouldn’t you say? Any way you look at it, that’s a lot of clout, and rightly deserved.

Now, I realize this may be just a bit off-topic, but did you know that Jesus could easily have become King of the entire earth, in a very literal and ‘material’ sense? Satan offered the position to Him early on (Luke 4:5-7); all Jesus needed to do was simply accept it. Fortunately for everyone involved (especially us), the Lord had too much integrity, guts, foresight and class to take that bait. He knew something the devil didn’t – He knew that things were in the works (1 Corinthians 2:8).

But, where did Satan get such authority and power – and the right to give it to anybody he chose to – in the first place? He swindled it out of Adam, of course (Genesis 3:12-19); which necessarily meant that Adam and Eve initially had to have authority over ‘all the power and the glory of the kingdoms of the world’ (Genesis 1:28; Luke 4:5-6).

It’s interesting to take note here of the Lord Jesus’ declaration that “all power [authority, privilege, capacity, jurisdiction, freedom, liberty, right, force and strength] is given to Me [both] in heaven and in earth” (Matthew 28:18). That power ‘in earth’ is the same authority and power Satan had been prancing around with, the very same position he’d tried to tempt Jesus with three-and-a-half years earlier. And that’s what the Lord knew: His wisdom and foresight taught Him that there was absolutely no need to take a ‘shortcut’ (spelled ‘p-i-t’) offered by the enemy, one that would eventually cost Him (and everybody else) a huge price. But, by sticking to His Father’s will, He knew He was going to end up with everything, including all that the devil had dangled in His face – which also turns out to be everything that Adam had lost at the outset.

Now, in case you’ve forgotten, Jesus has turned right around and given to us all the blessing, anointing and authority of His very one-sided victory, which means we should be stomping right up to Hell’s gates and Satan’s face in the Name which is above every other, and boldly commanding him to “Respect the Authoritah!” You don’t have to worry; regardless of whether he wants to or not, he simply has no choice but to bow the knee and confess – just before he scurries away! (James 4:7)

Okay, maybe it wasn’t so ‘off-topic’ after all. Anyway, thanks very much to Eric Theodore Cartman for…well, you know.

  1. Thank God Jesus, through His death and resurrection, has all the power and authority over Satan, and what is really amazing is that He gave us this authority over the power of the enemy too! Thank you for this message, Lester. Dee
