Luck, Fate and Coincidence

by Lester Young

Do you believe in luck? How about fate? Well, here are a few nuggets that you might find rather interesting. Although Isaiah 65:11 is the target scripture I want to bring your attention to, let’s read down into it from verse 10: 10) “And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a place for the herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me. 11) But you are they that forsake the Lord, who forget my holy mountain, who prepare a table for that troop, and who furnish the drink offering unto that number.”

In the Hebrew dictionary, that word ‘troop’ is translated from the Hebrew term gad which literally means ‘fortune’ – that is, luck. The word translated ‘number’ in that verse is from the Hebrew term ‘Mniy,’ which is the proper name of a Babylonian idol, and it literally means ‘The Apportioner’; or, as we might say, Fate. To bring things into crystal-clarity, here’s Isaiah 65:11 from the Amplified Bible:

‘Hot’ Tongues

by Lester Young

You’ve probably already heard the Biblical principle, “You’re going to have what you say” (Mark 11:23-24). Indeed, the book of Proverbs tells very plainly – and profusely – about the correlation between one’s spoken words and their natural circumstances. Taken literally, we could (and should) even make the connection of the current condition of the world with the overall content and tone of people’s tongues over the years. James 3:6 backs up this assertion: “…The tongue is a little member, and it boasts great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. The Message translation puts it this way: “It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell.”

The Prosperity of the Wise

by Lester Young

Today, let’s spend a few moments talking about prosperity, which even now continues to be a rather dirty word in some ‘spiritual’ circles. But please take note of the fact that I didn’t say, “Let’s talk about money;” I said, “Let’s talk about ‘prosperity.'” And that, I suspect, is a large part of the problem, because those two terms and the concepts behind them are not actually fully interchangeable at all times. However, it seems that when anyone who’s perceived to have anything to do with the ‘religious’ community mentions the word ‘prosperity,’ it’s automatically assumed that he or she is referring specifically to money – and I suppose, to be honest, that’s often turned out to be the case.
