Wool Can Be Hazardous to Your Health

by Lester Young

You know, I believe the wool’s been pulled over our eyes for far too long now. I think we all need to become much more astute about just what’s going on around us. You’ve undoubtedly heard the saying, “Seeing is believing.” And a large percentage of folks – Christians included – undoubtedly subscribe to it. But do you realize that when God looks at that kind of ‘wisdom,’ He kinda just breaks out into a big laugh? (Psalm 2:4; 59:8; 1 Corinthians 3:19-20) (Well, you gotta admit, we are pretty funny sometimes.) As a matter of fact, if you were to seriously consider this verse,”The just(ified in Christ) shall live by faith” (Habakkuk 2:4; Hebrews 10:38), you’d come to the inevitable conclusion that as far as heaven (that is, the spiritual realm of Creation) is concerned, “believing is seeing” (Mark 11:23-24; 1 Corinthians 1:27; 2 Corinthians 5:7).

“Okay, Lester; but even if that were so, that’s heaven. It’s not how things happen down here on earth, in this natural world. We can’t operate like God does.” And therein lies the wool. What we’ve all been bamboozled into accepting – and I have every confidence you can guess by whom – is the notion that we should rely on our physical senses (and as an extension our natural intellect) to live by. “I mean, I can only go by what I see. That’s why we were given them, right? …so we could live by them.”

In actuality, that sentiment couldn’t be more off-the-mark. First of all, if you can only judge things by what you see with your eyes, I submit to you that your world must be exceedingly small (2 Corinthians 10:7). Second, we were never given our natural faculties to carve out a living by – we were given them for the sole purpose of interacting with this natural, physical world in which our natural, physical bodies find themselves. Again, we’re supposed to be living by our faith in God and His Word (Habakkuk 2:4; Mark 11:22; Hebrews 10:38).

But getting back to the crux of the matter, this physical world operates – and always has operated – in just the same way the heavens do. It was made to do so, and it hasn’t changed (Genesis 8:22). You see, the natural, physical world we see simply reflects – follows and manifests – what’s going on in the spirit realm (Exodus 25:40; Hebrews 8:5). And the spirit realm operates by ‘words’ – but not just any words: the words must be spoken.

God gave us His M.O. for creating things in the very first chapter of His Book. There, we continually read, “And God said…and it was; And God said…and it was so; And God said…and it was so”…over and over and over again, as though He were trying to tell us something. Well, He was. Later on, Jesus went so far as to explain that same process in very ‘uncryptic’ terms, telling us plainly that “if we believe in our heart the things we say, those ‘things’ are exactly what we’ll have” (Mark 11:23 paraphrased).

Now, notice in those two teaching sessions a very important point the world pretty much just flatly misses: the ‘things’ don’t come first, the ‘spoken words’ do. And that’s precisely the reason why, if you’re waiting for things to get better before you actually begin saying they’re better, you’re in for a wait of truly epic proportions. It’s because the system by which all of Creation operates is functioning just as it was designed to from the start. Faith-filled spoken words – whether good or bad – cause things to happen: they’re the spiritual impetus that sets in motion the course of nature to change circumstances and build things…or tear them down (Proverbs 18:21; John 6:63; James 3:6).

Need proof? Turn on your TV for a half-hour, or just walk outside and listen. Do you think there’s actually no correlation between the condition the world is in and the terrible way most people talk? And I’m not necessarily talking about ‘cursing’ or foul language; I’m referring to the ‘doom and gloom’ that’s pumped out of the media on a continual basis, and society as a whole swallowing it all down and rehearsing it back amongst ourselves every chance we get…over and over and over again. Remember, the system is still working as advertised: we will have the ‘things’ that we say (Deuteronomy 30:14-15, 19; Mark 11:23). You can see, then, that ‘telling it like it is’ is only going to keep it ‘like it is.’

The only way to turn ‘it’ around is to begin speaking the good things you want instead of the bad things you already have (James 3:3-5). And that’s where having specific knowledge of God’s promises to us becomes invaluable. Those promises contained in our Covenant with Him are our inheritance in Christ Jesus, and those Words spoken by us in faith will produce the ‘things’ He sent them to produce in our lives (Isaiah 55:11; 2 Corinthians 1:20).

The world continually speaks the bad, the problems, the ‘curse’ (Deuteronomy 28:15-68); and it’s exactly what they have. But we’ve been given the Blessing (Deuteronomy 28:1-14) to speak, and it’s what we should be speaking at all times – directly into the face of sickness, problems, lack and every curse-filled thing Jesus has already redeemed us from (Galatians 3:13-14). Think about it: how else would we be the seasoning that makes living on this earth palatable or the light in a world overrun with darkness? (Isaiah 60:1-3; Matthew 5:13-16)

Now, will everything change immediately just because you speak God’s Words once or twice? Probably not. But if you’re in faith, and you stay in faith and don’t quit, the process begins immediately. Just like a seed dropped into good ground, it’s growth and production process starts right then, even though it may be quite some time before you see above ground any sign at all that something’s happening (Mark 4:26-29; Luke 8:15). After all, when that whole Adam-Eve-don’t-eat-the-fruit business went down, one of the first things God did was speak to Satan and tell him that Somebody was coming Who was going to snatch his britches into the most horrendous wedgie Creation has even seen (Genesis 3:15). And then, the next day…nothing. A week went by…still, nobody came. Months passed, and then years began to drag by… Then, after several thousand of them (at least!), Bam!…Jesus finally showed up! God didn’t get tired or discouraged and quit at the passage of those centuries, seemingly without effect; He just kept right on prophesying in each and ever book of the Bible that the Redeemer was coming.

We should therefore be able to endure the relatively short length of time it may be require for things to turn around for us and start resembling God’s Heavenly description of them (1 Peter 5:8-10). It certainly won’t take thousands of years. Of course, it’s not exactly a piece of cake believing you have something that you obviously don’t physically possess yet. But hey, if it were easy, as they say, everybody would be doing it. Nevertheless, if Jesus is your Lord, that’s exactly what He’s commanded you to do. No, not ‘suggested’ – commanded! Remember, God’s Word says that “the just shall live by faith” (Habakkuk 2:4; Hebrews 10:38).

So believe God’s Word to you. Then go ahead and speak it with your mouth. Speak the good, speak Life (Proverbs 4:20-22; John 6:63; 2 Corinthians 4:13). Eventually, if you don’t give up, you’ll see the change (Galatians 6:9). Believing really is seeing!

  1. Great article, Lester. It is so true that what comes out of our mouths dictates what happens around us. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and too many people speak death. The enemy has been having a heyday with so many Christians and it’s time the Church stood up to take back the ground he has stolen.

Sorry I haven’t stopped by for a while, but I have been taking long breaks from my computer as it was taking up all too much time.

    • Hi Diane.

I fully understand..I’ve been fussed at too for being in front of the computer too long 🙂 Nevertheless, great to hear from you again; and as always I appreciate your appreciation! I hope all’s well, and God bless you!
